Aliwal is a village in India, located in the Punjab, on the Sutlej, where, during the First Anglo-Sikh War, Sir Harry Smith gained a brilliant victory at the Battle of Aliwal over the Sikhs, whose forces had superior numbers, in 1846. Ailwal is a very old village in Punjab it is located in Taran Tarn district.
When partition was announced Ailwal had a Muslim majority, but was attacked by angry jatt Sikhs for revenge on the attack of Sikhs in Saikot.
